Chapter XXIV - Off We Go
Again ~Kaye
This is definitely more fun
than writing an English paper, Kaye thought happily to herself. Though it is a bit crowded in that train.
She knew not everyone around her was asleep. She could feel the active minds,
though she didn't probe any further. Reading minds was rude, and she never did
it without permission. Those insects had been most interesting to say the
least. She wouldn't have minded them as much if they hadn't taken her by
surprise like that. Their thought process had been so small and simple minded
that she had just assumed they weren't dangerous.
But things are different here in space. Such as that other lizard going off on her own even after we were attacked by insectoids just minutes ago.
Kaye shrugged. The Arcanian had set up an early warning system around the camp, but Jade was off and gone now.
Of course I would think our leader or leaders, as the case may be, would've thought to land on a less threatening planet.
Not that most of the people in their group couldn't handle themselves. But why invite trouble?
Kaye stood up, and looked around, at the sleeping, as well as the not sleeping figures. She got a few looks that said very clearly, "Don't bug me or you'll regret it". So, she left them alone. She decided a nice walk would be nice. Like it or not, with everyone coming from different planets, there was no real way for everyone's internal clocks to be set exactly the same. Kaye knew, by a glance at a watch on her bag, that it was currently the middle of the day in her time zone on Earth. She wagered that the pilot's time zone was sometime in the middle of the night, which was why they had stopped.
Kaye set her bag on the ground, just outside of camp, pulled the top open, and reached inside. With a smile she pulled out a box, and opened it.
Of course, they never stop to think we may be hungry. Of course, I doubt that half of them even eat… Kaye shook her head as she munched on the Pocky. I doubt anyone on the ship even knows what everyone else's name is.
She could see light beginning to show on the horizon. That was when she heard a loud clanking noise, followed by the angry voices she'd avoided by leaving camp before beginning to eat. She packed her bag back up, and moved back over to the Spectrum, where a group was amassing.
"I am not done sleeping," one voice said rather loudly.
Then there was the singsong chant of "Marbles, marbles, marbles, marbles, marbles" before the newcomer was tackled around the waist by a very much awake Kyanosa.
"Who is it?" Lich asked, probably not able to see in the not quite dawn light.
"Vector," Prism replied.
"Hey, everyone's here," yhe new arrival said looking around as Kyanosa sulked that he had no new marbles. "And I thought this planet didn't have any civilization. Hey guys."
There was a quick exchange of hellos from those who knew Vector, then a quick bringing him up to date.
"And this is one stop we now don't have to make," CR said. "Now we should be getting back into the air. This planet's nocturnal creatures are nothing in comparison to the diurnal ones."
The company all piled back onto the Spectrum. Kaye was just hopeful that the smell would be gone from the sleeping quarters soon, because she knew that in about six hours, she was going to be dead tired.
