Chapter LIV - We Have a
Kitchen Too? ~Kaye
Kaye blinked and up at Scilas, who had just set Saph and Jade onto the ground beside her. "Excuse me. What did you do that for?"
"We're leaving," he replied in a soft voice, before turning to avoid Ratch flying past to hit the side of the train.
6400 crashed next to the peeved robot, sliding to the floor as well. Lich ran in, yelled something, and disappeared again. The Spectrum's door then closed, and the train began to move.
Funny, I don't even remember going outside, but wouldn't it have been easier to just say 'All aboard'?
Kaye stood up, and went back over to looking through her pack, which is what she had thought she had been doing in the first place. Surprisingly not as much had been broken as Kaye had thought would be when she saw Kyanosa fall on it (being such a dramatic moment, she saw it in slow motion, and she was pretty sure she'd seen something snap, but it turned out to be one of her spare pencils). Mostly everything was just slightly squished and/or partially deformed, except for a few hardback books. She had to throw away the squished sandwiches, which were probably going bad by now anyway. She had forgotten to bring proper refrigeration and she'd already made a mental note for her next intergalactic field trip.
Now that they were breaking away from Fa'Diel's atmosphere, the magnet which had dragged Ratch and 6400 to the wall was disengaged, and both stood up, muttering under their breaths. Kaye set her pack to the side out of the way.
Rynn was already sleeping soundly, a baby in her arms, so Kaye decided not to disturb her, to ask if her arm was feeling better. She turned and made her way towards the sleeping quarters. She opened one of the doors, and slipped inside. Kyanosa lay on one of the beds; his arm was now in a cast (courtesy of Ian). He was groaning fitfully in his sleep.
Kaye moved quietly over the floor, and stopped beside the bed. As painful as broken bones could be, she knew it would be even worse if she was to heal the bone completely. Using only elemental power, the bone would be weak, and liable to break again very easily. She could, however ease the pain in his arm so he'd be able to sleep easier.
The Arcanian stretched out her hand, positioning it over the cast.
"Waters of healing. Soothe and calm."
She felt the spell flow into Kyanosa's arm, easing the pain of the break, but the man didn't stop tossing in his sleep.
Kaye frowned slightly. He should be resting easily with the pain in his arm healed. Then she remembered the books in her pack, and wondered if perhaps he had bruises from landing on them. She reached out her hand again, to search for any other sources of pain, when Kaynosa's eyes flew open.
He blinked a few times as Kaye backed up quickly, feeling a sudden rush of color to her cheeks. He looked down at his cast arm, then around the room, and finally back at Kaye.
"Where'd you put my forest?"
Kaye raised an eyebrow. "Where did I…? You're the one who blew it up."
"Oh did I?" Kaynosa questioned. "So where are we now?"
"Back on the Spectrum. We left Fa'Diel, and are now on our way to…to…well wherever we're going next I suppose."
He sighed. "Ultra-peachy keen."
"Um, sure," Kaye said. "Glad you're feeling better. Just don't overdo anything with that arm."
She backed towards the door, which suddenly swung open, revealing Mazzic, carrying a tray in his hands.
"Whoops, didn't know you had a visitor already," he said with a grin.
Kaye looked down at the tray. "What's that? Dinner?"
"Yeah, turns out this place has a kitchen too. Ian whipped up a few meals earlier. He's gone now though, CR said something about another quest, but I figured Kyanosa might be a bit hungry."
"Famished," came the quick reply. "Apparently I took out a forest. I worked up an appetite."
"You want some too?" Mazzic asked. "There's plenty."
Kaye shook her head. "I'm not hungry right now, but thank you for the offer." She pulled the door open again. "Um, see you later."
"Bye," Mazzic nodded.
"Good night," Kyanosa waved before digging into the food on the tray.
Kaye shut the door softly, and sighed. As odd as Kyanosa's comment was, she was actually feeling tired. Arcanians could easily sleep every night; same as humans, but unlike humans could go several days without sleep if necessary. She wasn't exactly sure how many days on Earth had passed, but she felt the previous events beginning to weigh down on her. With a sniffled yawn, she moved to the room next door and upon finding it empty, crawled under the blankets. She fell asleep almost immediately.
