Chapter LX: The Foxes and Hound ~Rynn

Rynn, Jaded, Ian, and Vector ran through the twisted, blackened forest. She couldn't believe her beloved Naaro, her Ka, had been turned against her and her friends. Kai was strangely silent during the run. As they ran, she wondered what happened to Naaro. What caused his change. And could he be changed back? She had to believe he could be, otherwise hope was lost. She didn't know about the others, but if it meant her death, she'd save Naaro. She had too, she loved him.
Up ahead, Jaded skidded to a stop. "Halt," he said softly, causing the others to stop. He pointed up ahead. A zombie stood, his clothes ragged, eyes blank, hair falling out in clumps. The smell of death rolled off him like fog off the ocean. He made a grunt and raised the club he held, walking slowly towards the group. Vector laughed.
"That thing thinks he can take us!" He was rolling.
Ian pointed to the ground. "He's not alone," he said, the ground splitting open as the words left his mouth. More undead rose up, and started towards them, grunting as zombies do. Kai started crying, and Rynn looked back, then screamed. Behind them was a pack of hell hounds, two headed wolven like creatures. They howled, making Kai scream louder.
"Crap," Rynn heard Vector say. She agreed. They were stuck between a rock and a hard spot.
Rynn's hand went to her sword as the zombies and hell hounds closed in for the kill. She unsheated the sword, the gold lined flames catching the light. She noticed the others draw their weapons or drop into fighting stances. The battle had begun.
Rynn led a war cry, the flames on her sword turning into real ones, coating the sword in fire. She slashed through two zombies before they knew what hit them. The fire quickly consumed the remains. Lightning flashed as she turned quickly, hearing her son cry. A hell hound was in the air, leaping at her. Lightning flashed and struck the beast in the chest. Rynn's eyes were the color of fire, the fire of her sword reflected in them. She was pissed. She had no real idea why and how Naaro was turned against them, and why they were being attacked. All she knew was anger and hate. She'd not let these fiends hurt her, her son, or her friends.
She held a palm out to the hell hounds, charging the small group. Fire gathered there, lightning crackled. She released a blast, and wiped out a few of the beasts. Turning around, she saw Jaded, Ian, and Vector fighting of the zombies. Spreading her wings, she took to the air, pointing her sword earthward. Fire blasted down as she flew, carving a path through the undead. Jaded threw a zombie into the path of fire, and Rynn watched with glee as it burned. Ian blasted a hell hound into her path, and the beast howled with pain as it too burned.
Vector ducked a cheap shot by a zombie, then dropped kicked it. When it landed, he kicked off its head. Rynn dove into the crowd of Zombies, slashing her way through. Ian blasted one onto her sword and the fire burned clean through it. The hell hounds jumped into the fray, leaping and attacking whatever they could, trying to stop Rynn, seeing her as the most dangerous. She turned to them, and raised her sword to the sky, and lightning blasted down, striking a few of the creatures, felling them where they stood.
Kai had stopped screaming and crying, watching the battle on Rynn's back. His eyes were wide and his tiny hands tried to mimic her own. Fire flashed in his eyes as his mother took down a hell hound that was sneaking up on Ian, who had his hands full with a zombie. He gurgled with glee as the beast dropped dead, fire consumming its body. Hearing a sound behind him, he turned and screamed. A zombie with a rusted sword was about to stab them.
Rynn turned at the sound of his scream, but a fist was through the zombie's gut. The Zombie fell forward, dropping the sword. Jaded stood behind it and nodded to the Drakoni. She nodded back, and fired a blast at the zombie, turning it to ash. Then she took to the air. She smiled, as she had a plan. Sheathing her sword, she made a motion with her hands and a ring of fire appeared, around the battle. "Run through the fire!" she screamed to her partners, as the circle started closing in. As they managed to do so, they were amazed as the fire didn't burn them, but any zombie or hell hound that gave chase was instantly turned into ash. She landed, and smiled. "Lets go."
