Chapter XC: Back to First Earth ~Kaye
"Penny for your thoughts."
Kyanosa turned sharply to see Kaye and Mazzic standing behind him.
"My thoughts run higher than a penny." The human retorted.
Mazzic turned out his pockets, and shook his head. Kaye didn't expect to find anything in the pants she'd thrown on in the middle of the night, so she was more than a little surprised when her hand closed over a crumpled piece of paper.
"Can you break a five?" She asked with a smile, holding the green bill aloft.
"Sure, I'll ask for change at the next 7-11."
Kaye frowned and put the bill back in her pocket. She glanced at Mazzic, who also looked slightly puzzled. Neither Spectrum traveler could remember Kyanosa ever being this, well unKyanosa-like.
"So we're here for another Creation's Weapon?" Mazzic asked, breaking the somewhat uncomfortable silence in which all three swore they heard the sound of a plot hole forming. Luckily nothing came of that.
"Seems that way." Kaye replied, casting a glance to Kyanosa, who was facing out over the water, his face void of the smile she was used to seeing on it. It reminded her suddenly of the way he'd looked in the forest. Well the forest that had once been in existence. The forest which now resembled the Big on Zolott, something else that was no longer there. "The one yoshi, Rainstorm, guided us here. So I guess it's his to get, leaving us with nothing to do yet again."
"Does seem to happen like that a lot doesn't it?" Mazzic agreed. "We're defiantly not main characters."
"I wouldn't really be all that helpful anyway. I prefer not to fight, and that seems most of what everyone here was brought for. I don't really understand why they came to get me, other than the fact that I was on Zolott."
"Well then maybe you aren't needed." Kyanosa said.
Kaye blinked. "What is wrong with you?"
"You don't even have a penny. Why would I tell you?"
"I was just wondering. You're not yourself..."
"How do you know that?" Kyanosa asked, still not turning.
"Well you're not acting like you usually do." Mazzic replied.
"So you're simply assuming you know who I am, and what's normal for me?"
"Unless you're the one who's been lying all this time." Mazzic crossed his arms. "We've spent a lot of time together. I don't think you've been faking your attitude this long."
Kyanosa refused to answer.
"Did we do something wrong?" Mazzic whispered to Kaye. She shook her head, showing she wasn't sure either. She could feel the negative feelings in Kyanosa's mind, sad thoughts. She wanted to know why he was so upset, but something told her not to push him too far. Especially when he still had those marbles...
The arcanian suddenly threw her backpack off her shoulders and began to sift through the contents.
"Kaye, I don't think poker's going to help..." Mazzic started.
"Found it." Kaye said, pulling a smaller bag out of her pack. The bag she'd grabbed at the last second before getting on the Spectrum.
"Here Kyanosa, this is for you."
The human half turned and glanced at the bag. "I don't want it."
"You sure? Okay, you can have it then Mazzic." She passed the bag to a slightly confused looking Mazzic. His confusion turned to a look of amusement as he felt the object in the bag.
"Sure you don't want this Kyanosa?" Mazzic asked, his eyes glinting as he opened the bag. He emptied the contents into his palm, a small, round...
"Marble!" Kyanosa shrieked, followed by the clang of his metal pants as he tackled Mazzic around the waist.
"Are you three busy?"
Kaye and Mazzic looked up to see CR with a group of people from the Spectrum. Kyanosa was too busy grabbing the marble from Mazzic's hand to look up. The clone pushed him off, climbing to his feet.
"No, not exactly." Kaye replied.
"We've going to have a meeting. Would you care to come?"
"Sure." Kaye said, following after the group as they started towards the town in the distance. Mazzic had to pull Kyanosa along, as he had begun to turn into copies of random things as they walked.
They made their way into an inn at the village, everyone sitting at various places, as CR began to pace in the middle of the circle. She listened as he explained what was going on with the Twilight Council, and was a little surprised when one of the rip holes he formed said First Earth above it.
"Looks like I'm going home for a bit then." Kaye said. "You're from First Earth too aren't you Kyanosa?"
"Righty roo." He replied.
"As am I." Josh said, suddenly appearing out of nowhere like he always seemed to do.
Kaye glanced to Mazzic. "I don't have a planet, just a colony."
"Then you'll come with us." Kyanosa said, setting the marble in with the others in his collection. "Because we know how worthless Kaye is for fighting."
Kaye was about to protest, but Kyanosa smiled for a second before diving into the 'First Earth' rip. The arcanian rolled her eyes as she, Josh and Mazzic followed.
