Chapter XCIII: Welcome to Beautiful…Something ~Kyanosa

Kyanosa always loved Rip Holes. Or maybe that was cats. Right, he had always liked cats. Keep getting those two confused.

Anyway, the four (Kyanosa, Kaye, Mazzic, and Josh [the person introduced in the aptly named "The Chapter You Won't Remember]) landed on the top of a not-small building in the middle of a comparably large city. The sun was shining, which Kyanosa took to mean that it was daytime, and only the occasional cloud floated through the sky. He could see all of this quite clearly, since the Rip Hole had the distinct courtesy (and pleasure) of appearing ten feet above the floor. Mazzic and Josh hit solid ground gracefully, a technique largely required for anybody who fights as frequently as they, and Kaye landed with the ability of a person who was very familiar with flying. Kyanosa ended up on his back.

Mazzic nudged Kyanosa with his foot. "You want up?"

Kyanosa grinned back. "No thanks, I'm good." He put his hands under his head and crossed his ankles. "So, who knows what we're doing?"

Kaye folded her arms. "We're looking for the Creation Weapon on Earth after which the Twilight Council is going. That's most of what we know."

Mazzic looked at her. "Then we need to find out what weapon this is, track it down, and get it before the rainbow guys do. Great. Where do we start?"

Everybody looked at each other for a minute, then Josh pointed at Kyanosa. "What does the book say?"

Mazzic grimaced. "As little as possible."

Kyanosa smiled in response. "Nah, this is the new book. It has all the stats and stuff in it like it had on Zolott before Havering died."

"Sure it does."

"No, really." Kyanosa sat up and pulled up one of his legs, taking the book from its usual spot coiled around his leg inside the armor covering his right leg. Or maybe it was left leg. Either way, it was certainly a leg. He then began reading it (the book, not the leg), scanning pages like a person who didn't know what it was for which he was looking. He eventually stopped and held a page out to Mazzic.

Mazzic took it and read. "Oh, look, it's a little chart showing who's going where. Okay." He stopped for a second, then looked quizzically at Kyanosa. "How did you get this?"

"Heck if I know. Things just appear there." He stood up. "I've been working on memorizing them all, good guys and bad."

Kaye looked over Mazzic's shoulder. "What does it say about me?"

Mazzic flipped through some pages. "I dunno. I want to see mine too."

Kyanosa shivered, then took the book from them. "Give me that. Children." He turned back to the chart. "Here, we're looking for the ***, and so are Vole and Jadea."

Since Kaye and Mazzic were still trying to figure out why they no longer had the book, Josh asked the obvious. "What are the stats on Vole and Jadea?"

Kyanosa closed the book and held it by his side, looking at something above and beyond them in an attempt to remember. "If memory serves, Vole is a green bookworm who uses a staff, is six foot nine, and has ungodly physical ability, but no magical power. Jadea is teal, five foot seven, kind of like a con artist, has a katana, and focuses more on agility than anything else."

Everybody was impressed. Mazzic chucked. "What, don't have their dental records down yet?"

Kyanosa just glared.

Josh took the book (carefully) from Kyanosa and flipped back to the chart. "Ah, and look here. It says that the Creation Weapon has to be within a two miles radius of where we are right now."

Kaye nodded. "Okay, that narrows it down. We can assume it's not floating in mid-air, so it's either on the street, in a building, or underground."

"Shall we split up and each take different angles?"

"We'll see how things are when we get down there. We could eliminate some areas if we get more information."

"True. Okay, let's go." Josh looked over at Kyanosa, who was still glaring, despite the fact that Mazzic had moved to somewhere else. Josh shook his shoulder. "Hey, are you coming?"

Kyanosa snapped out of his trance, but immediately grabbed Josh by the collar and pulled him to within two inches of his face. "Don't touch me again! Have I made that - ow!" Kyanosa suddenly pulled his hand back, pressing on his temple, then dropped his arm and looked at everybody else. "What are we doing again?"

Mazzic spoke up, albeit, softly, as he wasn't too stunned to move. "We're going downstairs...to search...for the Creation Weapon."

Kyanosa grinned and gave him a thumbs-up. "Coolie dookers." He jogged over to the door to the building's staircase and held it open for everybody.

Twenty minutes and many stairs later, they had arrived on the ground floor. Kaye was the first person to notice something was wrong, and she nudged Mazzic and gestured to a sign on the wall. Mazzic put his face in his hand while Kaye pointed the sign out to Josh. Kyanosa on the other hand had walked up to the first person he saw, a man in a suit sitting in a chair, and struck up a conversation.

"Hi, my name is Kyanosa Canopus, and I'm here with my friends Kaye Glenwater, Mazzic the clone of Mazzic, and Josh of indeterminate lineage. We arrived here as one stop on our interdimensional trip because our usual schedule of encountering strange otherworldly beings who want to eat us has as of late become more hectic that our preferences dictate. Currently we are seeking out a weapon of unfathomable power placed here in a well-intentioned but apparently ultimately futile attempt to seal away a demon who can apparently create sadistic robot beings to do his bidding and has the ability to destroy the most powerful spherical being ever to get me lost in the middle of a sunken yet previously flying battle fortress. We must accomplish this task before a number of well-varied noseless demons of myriad skin colors, two of them in particular, beat us to our particular goal and rob us of possibly the only chance we have to keep history as we know it the way it currently is. Do you have any means by which we might attain the location of our weapon and thus save all dimensions and preserve life as perceived by all things that have at some point existed from a very certain and unfortunate fate at the malicious hands of a tyrannical warlord?"

The man looked at him, said something in Spanish, and on second thought changed seats.

Kyanosa turned around to face the other three. "There's something he's not telling us."

Kaye sighed. "We're in Montevideo."

Josh nodded. "Which does not seem t be a primarily American city."

"It's the capital of Uruguay."

Kyanosa held his chin, deep in thought. "Yes, that might be what he's not telling us."

Mazzic fought the urge to forcefully remove Kyanosa's ear. "Anyway, we're in a completely foreign country. At least the Council members don't speak fluent Spanish."

"Actually, since Vole's so big on learning, I wouldn't be surprised if he had picked up a few Earth languages along the way. I'm not sure."

"Terrific. I blame you."

"You're just jealous because I'm so cute."

Mazzic took a deep breath. Okay, both ears.
