Chapter CIX:
Rainy ran through the forest already ahead
of CR and all of the rest of the crew. He had left late the previous night
because he had wanted to go alone and didn't want anyone following him. He
looked at his map again
"Left turn, then a right, and then another left," he said quietly to
himself. He was in the part of the forest where each path seemed to split into
three other paths and if you took the wrong way, you might never find your way
out. He had been sprinting through this peticular
area for about an hour already when finally he came to the last marked turn on
his map.
"Yes! Finally almost to the damned temple!" he cried aloud. As he
said this he saw something flash to his left side, but thought nothing of it.
When he stopped at the end of the path he was standing in front of a large
clearing with a very tall tower in the middle. The sky had clouded over already
and it began to rain a little. Rainy looked up into the tower wondering how
long it would take to get to the top. He started to run across the clearing
toward the door of the tower when he noticed things moving towards him. He squinted his eyes and could've sworn that he saw monsters
over there. Soon, his thought was confirmed as the ugly beasts began towards
him.
"@#%$, I thought I could make it to the tower without any problems."
Shrugging, Rainy dashed towards them, conjuring up a lightning storm in the
process. As the bolts began to slaughter the front line, Rainy dashed off the to the side calling forth a small tornado to take out the
left flank. They were now at half what they were, but the two spells he had cast were too much for his stamina and he stopped for
a second to catch his breath. He drew out his double scimitars and ran into the
crowd swinging and twirling. His blades sang through the air and sliced many
monsters down. After his whirling blade attack, he spun the opposite direction
and vaulted over a group of monsters. He landed in a roll, and rolled up into a
sprint. He sheathed both of his scimitars and ran across the clearing towards
the tower. Before the monsters even noticed he was gone, he was already inside
of the tower with the door bolted behind him. He breathed a sigh of relief; the
job was halfway done. He looked around and all he saw was a regular tower with
staircases going along the sides. He began to climb upwards towards the top of
the tower. After about an hour though, he noticed that he hadn't gone anywhere.
He looked down and realized that somehow he was still on the first staircase.
"That's rather odd," he said to himself. After trying for another
hour to get up he sat down on the staircase and thought for a moment. Suddenly
he got an idea. He started to walk down the staircase backwards and his thought
was correct. By going opposite of how he ordinarily walked, he began to ascend
the staircase. Finally after another hour of climbing in this way, he reached
the top where there were two doors, each marked with a seal on it.
"These must be the trial rooms that the elder mentioned."
He decided that either was good to start with, so he chose the right one and
placed his hand on the seal. There was a great whoosh of wind and he found
himself standing in front of a large mirror. He watched a reflection of himself doing opposite was he was doing. Rainy closed his eyes
remembering what the elder had said. He walked towards the mirror and then
placed his hand on the mirror. His reflection however walked the opposite way
and put his hand on the reflection of the door handle. Rainy then opened his
hand, and the reflection closed his and Rainy then turned his hand to the
right. The reflection turned his hand to the left. The last thing to do was to
get the reflection to open the door, and for this, Rainy made a pulling motion
and the reflection pushed the door open and completed the first challenge.
After another whooshing, Rainy found himself outside the two doors again, but
the right door was locked.
"And now for the final challenge," he said smiling. When he touched
the seal on the left door, he found himself in a different room. In this room
he saw a line of hedges. This room he knew was only going to be a run through
the hedges and past monsters. He ran through the hedges and began. First, he
ran to his right and then dove into the little lake that was in the middle of
the clearing there. From here he had a choice of four different directions, and
following the elders advice he started with the one farthest to his left. Here
he found a small dragonlet sitting in a corner. When
he approached, the dragonlet breathed fire at him.
Rainy quickly lept out of the way and then froze the
baby dragon with an ice spell quickly putting that fire out. He ran back to the
lake, dove back in, and then went to the next in order. Here he found an ogre
which was easily defeated because he was so slow. After five minutes of Rainy's blades, the monster was vanquished. The room next
to that contained a mage who liked lightning spells, a lot. Rainy was struck
once, but was lucky enough to be in mid roll so he was only scathed a small
bit. After he got close enough, the mage was no match for the steel and quickly
fell. The last room was something Rainy did not expect.
He found himself standing in a room facing himself.
The copy drew his scimitars and headed towards Rainy. Rainy drew his and started
to attack. The copy matched him blow for blow and this was seemingly getting
both of them nowhere. When Rainy finally did land a blow on the copy, he cried
out as he felt a sharp pain on his left arm. He looked down and noticed that he
was bleeding.
"Oh no...this is not good," Rainy said to
himself. The pain he inflicted on the copy, only came right back at him. While
he blocked the blows of the copy, Rainy tried to think of something to do.
Finally he had it. He removed a small shiny object from his pocket. It was a
tiny mirror, plain and round. He placed it on the floor and looked into the
glass, and was just barely able to make out a reflection of the copy. At this
he aimed his fingers and saying the command words out loud for the lightning
spell, he closed his eyes and hoped. There was a bright flash from his
fingertips as the lightning streaked towards the floor, then
it bounced off of the mirror shattering it into a million tiny shards. After it
burst upwards towards the copy who didn't move. Rainy
braced himself hoping his spell wouldn't also affect him. After a few seconds
he didn't feel anything, he had two immediate thoughts; one that the trick had
worked, or two that his spell had missed the target. He opened his eyes slowly
and saw his copy lying on the floor. He breathed a sigh of relief as he was
transported once more with a whooshing sound outside. This time he didn't end
up outside the rooms but rather on the roof. By this time, night had fallen and
the sky was clear. Rainy looked around and saw two figures leaning over
something. They were both rather ugly and seemed to be looking at something
that was stuck in a pedastal.
"Who are you and what are you doing over there?" Rainy said, not
thinking.
The two figures slowly turned around not looking at all happy that someone was
watching them.
"We are Orson and Malachai, and what may I ask
who in the hell you think you
are?"
"I am Rainstorm Yoshi, and I'm here for the
Creations Weapons."
"Well isn't that a coincedence, so are we. I
have a feeling you won't be leaving with them though, or your life for that
matter."
And with that statement both of the Twilighters burst
into action and lept at Rainy at the same time. Rainy
rolled to slowly and was shocked at the speed of
these...things. He was knicked on the shoulder and
was sent flying onto the ground. When he rolled up, he ducked only to have to
roll out of the way again. He sent out a quick lightning bolt and ran towards
the one who called himself Orson. He drew both of his blades, which glinted in
the moonlight. He stabbed Orson and dove off to the side only to notice that
both blades had been knocked from their hilts. He looked in horror at his two
scimitars and cringed at the vile laughing of the Twilighter.
Rainy had been too foolish to think that his blades would have any effect at
all. At the same time, he was too caught up in thinking of his next move. The
other Twilighter had snuck up behind him and picking
him up by his neck, he threw him across the roof to the other side. Rainy had
quick enough reflexes though to keep himself from
flying totally off of the roof. He landed hard on his left side and pulled with
his right hand to get back on the roof.
Both Twilighters turned their backs on him and headed
towards the weapons thinking that he was out of the fight. But Rainy had one
last trick up his sleeve. He pulled himself up onto his knees and closed his
eyes. "Goddess, help your humble servant now in his time of need," he
whispered as a last prayer.
He held both hands together and slowly began to speak the command words for the
spell.
"Bright as the stars in the sky, brighter than the sun on the
horizon," he whispered.
"Holy light I ask for your assisstance! Bestow
upon me the pure light and from the heavens may the rays pierce the darkness,"
he said louder. At this point, both Twilighters
turned around and noticed that Rainy was indeed still alive and well.
Then Rainy looked up into their eyes and then up to the glinting moon and
shouted, "Celestial Light!"
A bright flash lit the sky and a globe of white surrounded Rainy. He could just
barely hear the Twilighters laughing.
"You think your puny shield can protect you from us?!" one of them
laughed out.
Rainy felt something growing inside of him, and he felt his very soul shudder
as it was examined. Then there was a silence and time itself seemed to stop.
Rainy felt at peace for a split second before a beam of pure light shot forth
from his fingers.
Both Twilighters turned, and laughed for one second.
Then Orson screamed as he realized that this spell was actually affecting him.
He started to be consumed by the white light, and he screamed a terrible
scream. Immediately following his being consumed by the light, he fell to the
ground. Malachai placed his hands on the other
wounded Twilghter, quickly speaking the words of
command for the teleportation spell. They dissappeared
with a blink right before the white light exploded and the tower began to fall.
It crumbled very quickly and Rainy fell from exhaustion. He fell unconcious and the spell must have had an auto feather fall
weaved into it, because Rainy fell to the ground slow surrounded by a white
light. He touched down on the ground and the two Creations Weapons landed right
next to him, also surrounded in the glow. The glow shielded him from the gentle
rain that began to fall. Rainy smiled in his unconcious
state and layed there underneath the clouded sky.
