Chapter CLXX: Last Ditch ~Naaro

"Keep firing! We have to push those bastards back!" the Yo'shar commander shouted as he blew away another Setg'-in.

A circle of Yo'shar mobile suits acted as the last line of defence for the Elder Council as they sat in their bunker. They were in a panic, trying to figure out how they could possibly stop this new menace.

"We just rebuilt our cities, damnit! I can't believe this!" one elder shouted.

He was quickly met with a reply from the Yoshira Del Sol elder, who shouted, "Quit your whining, my people couldn't even rebuild!"

From his Ner'uda, H'dlak delighted in the ease with which his people destroyed the Yoshinians. He gestured for his servant to come over, and told him (in Yautja tongue), "Prepare to deploy the kiande amedha eggs."

The servant nodded, and went off to spread the word.

Back on Yoshin, another area had a contingent of Yo'shars guarding it. This was a lab, and, within it, a biological weapon against the Yautja was being worked on. All the materials were there, and a weapon could be easily, quickly, and plentifully made. There was just one problem: the scientists had no idea how to design the virus not to affect Yoshies.

"We have to come up with something fast..." one of the scientists said to his comrades, a feverish look in his eyes.

Outside, one of the Yo'shars exploded.

"Aah!" a scientist cried as the explosion shattered the windows.

A Hunter was waiting, and swung through the window, kicking one scientist to the floor and extending his wristblades to deal with the other four. As they cowered together in a corner, the Yautja stomped toward them, snarling menacingly. The door then suddenly flew off its hinges, and right into the Yautja. It was sent crashing into a shelf of supplies with a howl. A mysterious fellow in canvas cloaks covering his entire body walked in, holding a rifle with six barrels. As the Yautja got to his feet, the man depressed the trigger slightly, taking aim. The barrels began spinning, and the rifle began to make a humming noise. The Yautja tossed the door off of its body, then fully opened its mandible flaps, roaring at the cloaked man.

He smirked under his layers of robes, and replied, "Have this one on me."

He then depressed the trigger of the rifle fully, and the barrels reached full speed, giving off a loud, resounding hum as they sent walls of small, buckshot-like spiked bullets at the beast. Needless to say, the bullets hit their mark, and the Yautja's rather gored corpse hit the floor. As its dark-green phosphor blood spread across the floor, the man looked to the scientists, who were now in a cowering group of five.

"Th-thanks," one of them managed to squeak out.

The man nodded, and tossed them a vial. One of them caught it, and looked at it. Within was a muddy brown-colored gas.

"What's this?" he asked.

The man replied, "It's a virus that acts on the haemoglobin of these beasts. They have a different binding element in their blood...while ours and the blood of humans has iron, they have copper."

"How's it work?" another asked.

"It enters through the lungs, and attaches itself so tightly to the copper in the haemoglobin that these bastards suffocate. Kinda like what carbon monoxide would do to you."

The scientist looked worried. "Won't that suffocate yoshies too?"

"Nah," the man replied, "It only attaches to copper. Yoshies won't even find it a bit harder to breathe."

The scientist nodded. "Thank you," he said.

The man nodded, and turned to the door. One of the scientists opened his mouth, but was stopped as the man said, "Name? Just Straeger, that's all ya really need to know."

With that, he left the scientists to get to work.

Cyno picked up the phone as it rang.

"Who is this?" he asked.

"This is the lab! We have a weapon ready!" the voice replied.

"Excellent!" Cyno cried, adding, "Get it to the base immediately, we'll send the long-range bombers all over the planet and get rid of this pestilence!"

"Alright," the voice hastily responded.

The scientist slammed the phone down, and the Yo'shars were soon transporting the large containers of the weapon to the nearby airbase.

After transferring the weapon from the main containers to smaller, bomb-like containers, the scientists and base crew gave the bombers the OK. They were into the air as soon as possible, and spread across the planet, dropping the containers everywhere. Luckily, the gas was able to spread quickly, soon covering the entire planet. As the Yautja inhaled the gas, it entered their lungs, and found the haemoglobin. It wasn't long until they dropped dead from asphyxiation. As the Man'dacas lost contact with Yautja after Yautja, they soon discovered that they were losing the battle. An analysis of the areas where most Yautja were dying revealed the presence of the virus, and sent quite a scare through the fleet. The Man'daca captains sent requests to H'dlak for a retreat before it was too late...this was one menace that honor and cowardice did not apply to. A furious H'dlak reluctantly agreed, and the fleet pulled away from the planet. Yoshin soon discovered this with starfighters sent out to check the blockade, and celebration ensued. With the menace gone, now the Yoshinians could concentrate on the championship of their favorite sport the world around...Jioball.
