Chapter
CCXCVI: It Shines Like Gold, It Looks Like a Pen, But… ~Rainstorm
Rainy was standing in the middle of the road having gone outside after his nap. The old woman still hadn't returned from where ever she went, but he wasn't worried. Instead he found his hand drawn to the small inside pocket of his robe. Without even noticing it, he had begun to twiddle the pen. When he finally did notice that he was doing it, it piqued his curiosity again and he started to examine it. It still looked a really gold color, old looking and yet not tarnished in any sense of the word. He carefully placed the tip on his finger and rubbed it a bit, and through this he discovered that it actually wrote. When he had just begun to feel proud of himself for finding out that it wrote, he frowned.
It was a pen, so of course it writes, you stupid oaf! he thought to himself.
In any event, he began to play with it again and watched the grass blow in the breeze. At just that moment he was thinking of the time he had used D'Nel's magical doorknob to get back home. Man, would that be useful at a time like this. He rather missed the pirate. That got him thinking of the rest of his lost friends, but for some reason, his mind rested on Scilas. That assassin gave him the chills, but for some odd reason, Rainy trusted him.
He had just begun to think about them when he noticed something. Inside of his robe pocket, something was glowing. He reached inside, and to his astonishment he pulled out the gold pen, which somehow found its way back into his pocket. He was a bit puzzled as to why it was growing so brightly. To be quite honest, he couldn't understand why he was so fascinated by this object, but he was.
The more he stared at the glowing pen, the more he began to think about Scilas and D'Nel. This only made the pen glow brighter, and Rainy was captivated by it.
And then he thought, I wish I was with someone familiar right now. Even a pirate and an assassin are better company than an old woman.
With that
thought, the pen lifted out of his hand and shone so brightly against the blue
sky that Rainy had to shield his eyes. He felt a strange magnetic like force
pulling him towards it, and when he got close enough, he had noticed what
looked like a large rip in the air. As he got closer it widened. Rainy shivered
and a tingle went down his spine, but it was too late now. He was sucked into
this "rip" and thrown into darkness...
Down, down, down into the nothingness he fell, screaming all the way. For some reason though, the sound of his voice didn't come through. Before he knew it, it began to get lighter and lighter and lighter and he could've sworn that he heard D'Nel and Scilas talking about something.
“OOF!”
And at that moment, he landed on top of a very confused looking blonde human and an even more confused assassin, sending all three tumbling to the ground.
"Hi
guys...eh heh...oops?"
