Chapter CCCXLII: Spoiling for a Fight ~Vector

Beyond the rainforest was a large flatland, a huge plain that extended for miles in every direction. Standing in this expanse was Mecha, standing atop an out of place boulder, and surveying his surroundings. Unimpressed by any of the rather bland geology about him, he instead seemed to stare into space, almost as if in a trance.

“Self finds this world quite displeasing,” he said aloud, to himself. “Self can not find the life form ‘Vector Sprint’. Self must find and terminate Vector Sprint life form.”

Mecha stood upon the rock for several more minutes, continuing to recite his mission to himself, as well as vocalizing displeasure for the planet. After a few moments, a sound caught Mecha’s ear; he turned towards the source, and noticed a trail of dust moving across the plain, as if an object were travelling at high speed across the flatlands.

Upon a closer examination, Mecha felt himself overjoyed, as he discovered that the origin of the sound was his target: Vector. Mecha cackled with delight as he started his turbine, and shot off towards Vector at breakneck speed.

At the head of the dust storm that Mecha had spotted was a certain blue Yoshi, moving at speeds even a fighter jock could only dream of. Across the plain he ran, trying to find some sign of civilization, and failing miserably at it. After a few moments of travel, over which he’d moved several miles, Vector stopped and leaned against a tree. That is when he heard a buzz, which made his blood run cold. He quickly turned on his heel, just in time to see his robotic duplicate’s eyes, glowing like rings of ember against an ebony background. As soon as Vector had turned, the robot tackled him, and knocked him to the ground with such force that the Yoshi’s body dug a small rut in the soft ground.

“Self has subdued priority one, life form Vector Sprint!” Mecha said triumphantly.

Vector, still dazed and out of breath, looked at the machine that had attacked him with blurry vision.

“Huh?” Vector said, unaware of his situation, having been quite literally knocked silly.

After a few seconds, he regained his composure, and promptly screamed; sitting atop of him was his nemesis, and would-be assassin, Mecha Vector, a robot designed to be as fast as the Yoshi was, and yet still deadly in combat. With a strong kick of his legs, Vector was out from under the robot, the metal yoshi now face down in the dirt where Vector had lain.

“See ya, metalhead!” Vector said, just before dashing off.

“Life form Vector Sprint is to be terminated!” Mecha said to himself angrily. “Self will first tear his arms and legs off, and then self will tear his head off, ending his life processes.”

With that, Mecha started after Vector, easily matching the Yoshi’s speed, and catching up to him in but a few seconds. Upon reaching the blue Yoshi, Mecha lunged forwards, and tackled Vector again, only to get a face full of dirt, with Vector nowhere to be seen. Mecha stood up, and looked around, only to find himself on the ground again, with a gyro overload, Vector sitting on top of him.

The mechanical Yoshi swivelled his arms around, and grabbed the living one’s ankles. He swung his arms around, Vector in tow, and slammed the Yoshi into the ground with a loud thump. The air rushed out of Vector’s lungs as he hit the dirt, propelled by his foe, only to find himself hurled into the air. Before he could realize what was going on, Vector felt a fist in his back, followed by a foot in his gut, just before he once again hit the ground, dazed, bruised, and hurting.

Mecha must have thought he was dead, because the robot had turned around and was just standing there. Vector got up, and made a supersonic kick to the robot’s back, sending him flying down to the ground. Seeing his assailant down, Vector took off running away from the robot, as fast as he could. Mecha stood up from his prone position, and, seeing his prey run away, laughed to himself. He ignited his booster, and shot after Vector, matching the Yoshi’s speed easily, and lunged after him.

The battle between the two rivals was fierce to say the least. To outside observers, only two blurred streaks could have been seen, clashing, a blue one and a red one, each moving at incredible velocities.

At present, both combatants were lying face first on the ground, Vector panting and bleeding from several open wounds, Mecha lying unmoving, fluids dripping from several severed hoses and pipes. Vector, being alive, revived before his mechanical counterpart did, and made it a point to leave the scene rather quickly. Mecha, on the other hand, did not revive so quickly, being a robot, and relying on mechanical self-repair mechanisms.

He got up, and looked at his surroundings with glowing red eyes. The ground was destroyed, every blade of grass in a large radius that had been their arena had been ripped out of the ground, shredded, mangled, and then pulverized into oblivion just for good measure, tons of soil kicked up and redistributed to who knows where and a myriad of trenches where the two had thrown each other. With a shrug of indifference, Mecha started walking in the direction he guessed Vector had gone, playing the fight over in his mind.
