Chapter CCCXLVIII:
Against the Odds ~Multehx
Across the moor a group of shadows moved. One walked mostly upright at the front. He supported someone upon his shoulder who was somewhat doubled over, not moving one of his legs. His other arm was slung around the third person, a rather funny looking automation with rather large sunglasses for eyes.
The lead man shot a glance to the one he was carrying. He smirked slightly to see that the cloaked figure was still really out of it. "So, think he saw much?" he asked the third person, the robot.
The robot chuckled and shook its head. "Doubt it. One of them struck him from behind right off." He gave a mock punch to the air. "But no one stands to my daymaker."
The young man grinned, walking still. "You mean haymaker, don't ya, Ray?"
Ray Noh shook his head. "Nope. Daymaker. This punch REALLY zonks em, and they have one 'ELL of a day after that!"
D'Nel Albright gave a snickering laugh.
The two continued exchanging words until they finally returned to the outskirts of town. D'Nel stopped and glanced to his partner. "Hey, Ray, where should we take this chap?"
"How about to the Blood Rose? He could sleep up there and we could hit the bar."
A grin spread over the blond's face. "Too true, sounds like a plan. Let's get to it then!"
* * *
"Ah s*it..."
D'Nel looked crestfallenly at the collapsed rubble. He muttered for a moment before shooting a heated glare at the robot. "You idiot, the fire-maniac burnt this place to the ground before; why did you get my hopes up?!"
Ray snorted angrily. "Why did I get your hopes up?! Why'd you get MY hopes up?! I thought I had a really good idea seeing how you reacted to it!"
D'Nel shook his head, gently placing rainy on a small raised garden bed. "Look, you're ALWAYS getting us into these messes. I swear-"
Ray Noh shook his fist. "YOU'RE always having the bright ideas and getting my hopes up then blaming every bloody thing on me! Don't you swear at me you little-"
And so, the town
had a rather peaceful morning. Except those who were aroused from their
slumbers by some heated roaring obscenities unlike they had ever heard coming
from outside. But, being sensible people, most just bolted the windows and
returned to the comfort of their linen sheets. Just another
day of pirating lives.
