Chapter XXIX: A New Hope - Kyle

"EAT THIS!!!" Kyle shouted as he sped across the ice with great skill and agility. The boy at the other end of the lake, Joe, was his best friend since they were both little. But unlike Kyle, Joe had never taken well to the sport of ice hockey. He was a terrible skater, and an even worse athlete. But Kyle kept coming as fast as he could toward Joe's net. As he neared, Joe simply hid his face in his massive goaley gloves and stood out of the way. Kyle screeched to a halt, sending up a cloud of ice dust and smacked the puck straight through the air into the goal, pushing it back a foot or two. He took off his mask and walked toward Joe. "Dude, how am I gonna be able to practice for tomorrow's game if you don't try and block the puck?"
"Sorry..." Joe said sheepishly. "But you know how bad I am at hockey. You should get someone else to help you practice, I'm no good..."
Kyle sighed, his breath coming out in a frosty white cloud in the -8 degree weather. "I know Joe, I'm sorry... what say we go in and grab some hot cocoa and take a break?"
Joe's face lit up at the mention of the hot, frothy drink. "Sure!"
"I'll meet you back at the cabin, just lemme clean this stuff up." Kyle began pushing the regulation-sized nets back onto the frozen beach. He sat down and took off his skates and threw them into his duffel bag along with his gloves, mask, and pads. He slipped into his boots and threw the bag over his shoulder as he began walking back to the cabin. But a strange whirring sound came from behind him. He froze where he was, cautiously turning around, fearing that it would be a Spinning Robo. The mechanized menaces were strangely found in the massive caverns below the Stonehenge monument. Ever since Ness and his friends went down there and erased the Eraser-shaped object blocking the entrance, monsters have been pouring out of the hole and disturbing the town. But as he turned around, he didn't see a Spinning Robo, but a huge, gaping black hole was suspended in the sky. Suddenly, the hole began pulling at him with the force of 10 million vacuums. He had no way of resisting the awesome power, so he simply let himself be sucked into the oblivion...
