Chapter XXXI: Hey Jude -Multex707
From a forest, a few miles past the piedemonts of a great mountain ridge, the sounds of soft, slightly twangy music rose from a glade.
Multex had long gotten tired of nature gazing, and reviewing the mission ahead only made him want to get up more than ever, so he had finally slipped into one of his other favorite past times. Anyone around the agency and Everyone there knew that Agent 707 was a great Blues fan. He ALWAYS carried the small green velvet case that held his silver harmonica with his gold M insignia on it. He slowly finished the last, slightly mellow verses of one of the many songs he had learned in his travels. He didn't know what it was about this one, but whenever he plaed it, he just felt...like he was home. Not home in his elaborate cave, or even in the further back home he knew...but home somewhere...far away. It was a strange and equally odd named song, by the title of "Memories of Magik days". He had learned that haunting, slightly sad melody along with a song from the same reigion, the man who taught them to him had said, named "Caelum Magnificent". Both always brought up visions in his mind. Pictures of blue skies...green plains...and an odd tingle to the very air itself he couldn't call anythign but comforting. Lingering on those thoughts, The agent's mood changed slightly and he put the harmonica in position as he selected a song in his mind. For some odd reason...he felt more like the song "Demnos Rhoh-Tinata Requiem", a song he always felt..a bit uncomfortable playing, yet a bit comforted by it at the same time, if that was possible. He began, playing the song as best as one could on a harmonica. It had obviously been meant for a flute, but Multex never cared to learn the instrument, so he settled for his own version. It started out soft and eerie, but quickly picked into a song of chilling dimensions. Multex could only describe it as "..dark..and a bit cold. Life to it..but not really." It was as accurate as you could get with the song really. As he played the gravely pale tones, Multex shivered slightly, feeling the odd chill he always recieved from this song. But this time...something..wasn't...the same...
Multex's gaze shot up. His blood nearly froze in his metallic veins and his hair stood on end. The...thing, for that was the only true way to describe it, that stood in the clearing, eyes locked upon him, was unsuually horrifying. It radiated a dark aura to it's person, and the stare it was giving him could only be described as animal in intention. "Like a predator sizing up potential prey" multex's mind realized with chilling clarity. forever seemed to pass in the gap of two seconds, and the agent furthere realized what the situation was. "A stand off...who ever makes the first move, starts it.."
Unfortunately, the first move was totaly unplanned. The first action was a pollen enduced hacking cough on the agent's part. The beast hunched over, snarled fiercely and lunged. Neither agent nor beast saw the red blur until it was too late for one of the two.
With a sound that resembled the mix of a "WHAM!" and a resonating C sharp, the red object brutally impacted on the foul creature's head. Multex could hardly believe his eyes as a four foot blue form, toting the odd red "weapon" rebounded off the creature's head, spun in mid air and landed with a bright grin. "NM!!" Tex half shouted, slightly surprised, slightly over joyed. "Hey Texy! Small world, ain't it?" The new creature chimed, flashing a wide, canine exposing grin. "Yeah, tell me about it! But how the heck did you get HERE??" NM's smile dulled slightly to a defensive growl as the Beast turned to face him, VERY enraged about the clubbing with, what multex could now make out, was a Ruby Red colored Electric Guitar. "I'll try to explain that after I handle this ugly bugger." NM hastily replied, using his small size and agility to his advantage, dodging a clawed swipe meant for him. Multex nodded and tried to figure out what his small friend was going to attempt to use in his favor. Rebounding between two trees, the small blue monster managed to gain enough momentum for a push off that sent him over the monstrosity's hideous head and onto the ground in front of Multex. Glancing at the agent and flashing a quick smile, NM turned back to the monster at hand, tking his guitar up in his claws. As the agent watched, the clawed hands of his small blue monster pal began to strike up an extremely up beat tune. Oddly, even though it was just a guitar playing, the agent swore he could hear an echo of drums setting the beat, and a low horn along with the melody. Even stranger still, was the fact that the beast seemed to be edging away from the two of them as the tempo picked up. Turning a quick glance back to NM, multex swore he could see odd blue sparks flying off the small monster's odd, black, earlike appandages. As the beat hit speeds of mind numbing degrees, the small, but now determined looking little monster turned his glance towards the foul beast and bellowed in his odd and unique language "Plaaaassssmatiiic!!". With this odd word, the faint blue glow around Nm's ears intensified a thousand fold and the crackling of high energy bolts thundered from around them. With a swift drawing back followed by a thrust forward of those odd ears, a blinding bolt of blue light shot forth and slammed into the beast, nearly rending it apart at the seams instantly. With the passing of a few minutes, both the remenants of the light and the beast had faded in whisps of smoke. Catching his breath and pacing tiredly over to his friend, the small, blue, guitar playing critter took a seat on a rock opposite and grinned slightly between breaths. "Picked up...a few...tricks...since we last...met, Texy." he grinned. Multex returned the grin and nodded. "I noticed. But how long's it been since we last left the same path?" Nm brushed a stray hair from his odd black "mask" that surrounded his eyes and appeared to be thinking. "..bout..13 months Parallel Earth time I think...five years where I was for sure." Multex whistled between his teeth and shook his head. "Five years over there? No wonder you've grown a bit." NM Chuckled and glanced down at his legs and slightly worn red shoes. "Yeah...a foot and a half since we last met. And picked up Double R." the small monster smiled, patting the shiny red instrument on his lap. "Yeah, I saw you had some new toy with you. Where'd you get that thing?" "Well...Kinda hard to explain really, but got it from a guy who wanted me to have it. A sort of "do a favor get a favor" thing. I helped him out by doing some work for him and he gave me that." Multex hmmed and nodded, leaning back against the tree. "Yes...you've been adventuring in that other dimension for a bit now. So...ever going to tell me what you were up to over this time? Or how you got here more importantly?" Nm glanced up at the sky above and shook his head slightly. The first is a long story, so i'll save that for some other time. But the second: CR pulled me here." With that statement the Agent blinked. "CR brought you here? How come?" The small monster chuckled slightly and pointed a claw at his friend. "Because he said you'd need all the luck you could get, knowing how loner minded you are." Multex laughed slightly at the comment and shook his head. "Yeah, that sounds like CR alright. So you're here as a partner to me, eh?" "Nooo, I was thinking you could be MY partner for once." NM Grinned, earning him a whack on the shoulder. "Ok! Ok! You can be the leader as usual!" Nm chuckled, rasising his claws in defense. The Agent grinned and smiled smugly. "Well, as leader, I think first thing you could do to help pass some time here would be to show me just how well you know how to use that thing." NM rolled his eyes and gave his best fake salute. "Aye aye capn!" he grinned as he took the guitar in claw and began to play an old favorite of his, Hey Jude. The agent listened on for a bit, smiling before finally joining in himself. And so the time passed into the evening hours farily quickly with the sounds of a harmonica, a guitar, and a monster singing a pretty good rendition of what ever song they felt like playing.
