Chapter XXXVII: The Attack -Ria

Adrian led the two visitors into a spare hut. They both looked around, not seeming to know what to say. The hut was small and meager so saying thanks would be lying. Adrian watched them move around uncomfortably.

"Well, I'll leave you to get comfortable." She said and moved out of the hut. She was sure she heard them sigh in relief.

"Are they alright in there?" Ragon asked.

Adrian shrugged. "I don't think they're used to anything like that. I don't think they'll sleep well tonight."

"And are you ready for your lesson for today?"

Adrian nodded and looked at the ground. It frustrated her that she had so much trouble with this. She had been able to master everything else so quickly, so why not this?

"Sometimes one has to go with the flow before gaining true control." Ragon said.

She glanced over at him, not quite understanding. She took of her two swords and lay them to the side. Ragon chained her feet and hands down and moved back.

I am going to get this. She thought furiously. She began to morph when there was a scream from the side. She turned to look as one of the younger aurans ran out of the forest, on it's heals was a huge colpie. (A large creature resembling a wolf with longer fur and longer teeth.)

Ragon pulled his sword from its sheath. Colpie were very dangerous because they were very fast. They could easily be faster then an auran. This one almost seemed to be playing with the child. Jumping over its head so the child would scream again and have to run another way. It didn't even seem to notice the aurans running towards it, blades burnished.

Adrian felt her temper shoot up. No creature messed with children when she could help it. She suddenly realized that she had become fully griffin. She felt the tug of the griffin's mind but she had kept control. Go with the flow< She realized suddenly.

"Master, let me free." She shouted.

He turned.

"I'm okay. I can kill it, you won't be able to."

The colpie had already ripped someone's arm to shreds. It's mouth foamed with white and red foam as it turned to the other aurans attacking it.

Ragon nodded and moved to unlock the chains. Adrian sprang forward on muscles that felt like liquid metal. The griffin's want to kill surfaced and she let it remain, controlled it, but she moved with the desire instead of against it. The colpie saw her coming and turned to meet the attack.

Adrian slammed into the colpie with fury. Her claws raking down its side. It hissed in pain, twisting around to try and reach her throat with its deadly fangs. She pushed off its body as the teeth closed on thin air.

Adrian let the griffin fight. She knew it could use the body far better then she could, at least right now. She almost laughed out loud at the feeling of grace and strength she'd never been able to feel before. He claws lanced out again but the colpie managed to dart out of the way. It rolled forward, knocking Adrian to the ground, and then jumped on top of her. It's jaws reached for her exposed throat but she threw one of her wings forward, something a griffin would never do, but as an auran she could.

She cried out in pain as the bones in the wing snapped in two. She kicked the colpie back with her rear legs, cutting deeply into its stomach. It fell back. Anger flare in its eyes. Suddenly Adrian remembered that griffins themselves could use a limited amount of wild magic. She crouched back on her back legs, ignoring the pain in her wing. A Wind Cutter appeared between the two clawed hands. The Wind Cutter launched forward and cleaved the colpie's head from its body.

"Wow, now that was something." Adrian turned to see Draco standing to the side.

Ragon made his way over to her. "Very nice Ria." He praised.

Adrian made to reply when a sharp pain in her wing cut her off. She quickly focused on changing back. The pain faded as the wing was sucked into her back. Any injuries an auran sustains in either form will be healed instantly when they move into the other form. Adrian sighed as she was able to stand up again, completely pain free.

"Wow. How'd you do that?" Alicia asked running over.

"It's just what we do." Adrian said moving forward to the dead colpie. "Should make a good meal."

"Definitely." Ragon said.

"We're going to eat that?" Alicia asked faintly.

"A believe you humans would say it tastes like chicken." Adrian said without the least hint of a smile.
