Chapter XLIII: A Reluctant Start -Draco
"Oh man!" Draco groaned. "My back is killing me. Stupid armor, why couldn't I just teleport it back to the lab like I usually do?" He asked as twisted his torso, occasionally letting out a crack.
"Oh quit your whining. At least you didn't have to eat that...thing. I'm a lab scientist. My meals are supposed to have been dead for days, and then neatly packaged." She got up and noticed her slightly long hair was all over the place. "Oh sheesh, how am I going to comb this?" She looked around, and the only thing she could come up with was to get a rag and tie it back. "So anyway, the reason we can't teleport your armor is because there are only two sattelites, and each one has a 2 hour window, which means if you screw up, you'll be armorless for however many hours there are between windows."
"Hmm, good point." Draco didn't have to worry about his synthetic hair. It looked good without combing, and he always had his helmet to cover it up if he had to. He put it on anyway, but left the visor up. "How do you know they're working anyway?"
"Well for one, this thing tells me so, and I can see the surface of the planet. Definitely not earth. And this also tells me the teleportation device is working. So, no need for cross country travelling on foot." She smiled as she got up and put on her jacket and all the items and weapons she had.
"So where do we go next? I remember them saying that peices of other planets come and go. Maybe if we go back to the lab, we'll eventually get back home. Besides, they have real food there."
"Are you kidding? And not get a chance to learn about other worlds and other beings? I've begun to realize this is the opportunity of a lifetime. So much to learn within easy reach. Like being a kid in a candy store. Who knows, maybe I'll come across someone advanced enough to help perfect your weapons system." By the time she finished the sentence, she was ready to go back into the wilderness.
"Well then what are we waiting for? Let's get a move on." He said with renewed enthusiasm as he walked out the door of the hut, followed by the doctor. Outside, already midday after resting for so long, they found Adrian practicing her sword skills. They were both still impressed at how well she fought. "Wow, you use those as if they were a part of you." He commented.
"They practically are." She responded, without the slightest hint of being distracted. When she did turn to look at them, she noticed they carried all of their things with them. She even threw in a little magic every now and then. "So you're finally leaving?"
"Yes. But please, don't try and stop us." Alicia replied in a sarcastic tone. "Anyway, before we go, are you sure you don't know how we can get back home? At least that way we'd be out of your hair forever...and vice versa." She grinned.
"Trust me, if I knew I would've thought about that already. It just...happens from what I've heard." She apparently finished up her practice and put away the sword. Then a surprising sound in the background caught them a bit off guard. It was the rumble of thunder. "Hmm, this again. How odd."
"You guys must never get bored around here." Draco replied. The clouds seemed to suddenly form above them, and a bolt of lightning struck only a few yards from the group. They shielded themselves from the flash and the loud bang. When they looked back at where it struck, a fire had started. "Hmm, that coulda left a scratch on my armor." Ragon suddenly appeared from his hut and saw the flames.
"It's okay master, I can take care of it." She held her arm out and waved it from the direction of the river to the fire. Suddenly a spray of water came rushing from the river, and easily put out the fire.
"I'm afraid that's only the beginning. These aren't just coincidences." For some reason, no one seemed surprised by that. "Aside from the obvious, there seem to be some very powerful beings on Zolott this time. It's not something we can ignore like we usually do. This may affect our tribe as well as the rest of our home."
"Oh heaven forbid anyone of you should get hurt." Alicia responded sarcastically. They both ignored the remark, except for Draco who chuckled a bit.
"What exactly are you saying master?" Adrian asked.
"I'm saying, perhaps you should accompany them on their quest home. Until they are gone, we can't be sure that the threat, whatever it is, is gone as well. And humans have a talent for attracting danger, so they might lead you to the source of this threat." Alicia could be heard letting out a sigh, and then hanging her head down.
"Well, we could use a guide...I guess...in case...we get lost...which um..." Draco said, then shrugged, unsure of what else to add. Adrian seemed a bit reluctant, but eventually obeyed his orders.
She set up her things for travel, and bid Ragon farewell. He gave her some last minute advice, and bid her good luck. They finally left, not knowing exactly where to go, but hoping they'd run into something that would lead them somewhere. And from the two females, the sooner the better...
