Chapter LVII: Entering a New World -Rynn and Chanlin

Rynn wrapped her arms around the waist of her husband, Chanlin, and gave
him a kiss. It had been two wonderful weeks in the city of Merelan, Rynn's
home, just her and Chanlin, without their daughter, Mara. They were on a
second honeymoon, which both had really needed, and now, they were preparing
to go home.

They broke the kiss and Chanlin smiled at Rynn. "Ready to go home,
love?" he asked, running his hand through her hair.

Rynn smiled, staring lovingly into Chanlin's silver eyes. "Yes. This has
been nice, but I miss Mara."

Chanlin nodded. "I miss the munchkin too." He smiled and gave Rynn a
quick kiss on the forehead before breaking their embrace. "Well, shall we
see if we need to rescue Aunt Kristina from her?" he asked with a slight
grin.

Rynn smirked, her hands on her hips. "Ka," she said, calling him by a
ancient Mer soul name. "You know Mara isn't that bad!"

Chanlin laughed. "I was teasing you, Ka," he replied, casting the spell
to open the portal. As he did so, a black force ran though the portal, but
neither Rynn nor Chanlin noticed. "Well, are you ready to return home,
love?"

Rynn nodded and took Chanlin's hand in hers. "I'm ready if you are." He
smiled, and together they walked through the portal. As they exited on the
other side, everything around them rippled, then went back to normal. "What
in the world?"

Chanlin shrugged. "I don't know, but it couldn't have been good. Lets go
to the Castle." Rynn nodded and they both spread their wings. They lifted
into the air and flew towards the castle. When they landed, they were
greeted by Kristina and Mara. Mara ran towards them and Rynn scooped her up
into her arms.

"Kris, what in the world was that ripple effect?" Chanlin asked, rubbing
the top of Mara's head, who gave her father a big grin.

Kristina gave Chanlin a puzzled look. "Ripple effect? Chanlin, I have no
clue what you are talking about." She smiled at Mara and Rynn. "How was the
honeymoon?"

Rynn smiled while Chanlin puzzled over the ripple. "It was
wonderful...just what we needed. But Kris, Chanlin was right. Everything
rippled right as we exited the portal. But it didn't happen here?"

Kristina shook her head. "No, not at all."

Chanlin frowned. "This is too wierd," he said, "I know somthing happned,
and yet," he looked around, "nothing feels different." He glanced at Rynn, who
had closed her eyes, then opened them.

Rynn nodded. "Perhaps we should go and make sure though, love."

"Mommy, may I go as well? I missed you and Daddy."

Rynn turned to Chanlin, a question in her eyes. He smiled at his
daughter. "I don't see why not. Just stick close, ok, Munchkin?" Mara
grinned, then Chanlin turned to Rynn. "Shall we?"

She nodded. "Yes...though nothing seems different, I still have a bad
feeling about all this."

They bidded Kristina goodbye and took to the air, Rynn holding onto
Mara. As they flew from the castle, a small shape flew behind them. It
glided up towards them and Mara grinned. It was Ruth, her dragon friend.

I hope you don't mind, but I want to come along too, the small
dragon said. Chanlin nodded, then gasped. Beyond the city was a valley...a
valley that wasn't there before. He hovered in the air, his mouth open in
surprise.

"Well I'll be a wingless dragon..."
