Chapter XCVI: Dark Hunter in a Strange World -Koi

Opaque ebony water churned sluggishly about Koi’s frail form as her slender fingers tipped with ribbed prints that held with ease to the slime coated glass. Mercurial silver hues scanned the large, sterile looking wash white room, light enough to see in even when the light wasn’t on. Nothing held her attention for long until sight fell upon a digital clock blinking bright red numbers, sprawling lazily on the bottom of her tank. Counting how many times it blinked before becoming bored with that as well giving a flick of billowing silk-like caudal fins, which sent her across the tank. Eagerly peeking through the glass when the door that led into the room opened and the room was drowned in artificial light. The excitement faltered when she watched the one person she hated most step in followed by a very ‘all-about-business’ looking man muttering to herself disgustedly, Go ahead, make deals you think your so smart but as soon as I get into that ocean your never seeing me again. She pressed her ear against the glass to listen only to jerk away when a sharp metallic wrap on the glass of the professor’s cane struck right against her sensitive little pointed ear, holding it as her hues narrowed venomously. Professor Taggart watched her recoil from the glass and stare at him, there was no mistaking such a look of hatred for any other emotion. Turning his face to meet that of the young man’s a very sharp-witted, very rich accountant. If only he could get him to invest in Koi’s program though he had to well admit she was great to look at but when it came to helping this country she was less then intimidating. "I know Koi doesn’t look like much right now Mr. Granova, but as soon as she’s finished with her training she’ll be the most lucrative investment of your young life." The businessman looked away towards the tank again with questioning doubt, "Show me wh…" his sentence was cut short by the sharp wrapping of the professor’s cane against the glass waiting expectantly. Koi squealed in pain covering her ears senses cluttering she was roughly thrown into each side of the tank coming upon the spot where the noise was the clearest, The cane… damn him, what does he want from me?! long claws retracted and she dug them through the glass to snatch away the machine of her torment. "As you see, Koi is not the smartest creature on the face of this earth. Very sprightly though." he stared solemnly down at Koi a sardonic grin twisting his gnarled lips as her pliant form flopped like a true fish before him, stepping back as she snarled at him rabidly and arched herself enough to make a clean slice deep across his shin. Blood bubbled from the corners of her small gills as they tore in their ravenous effort to search for some moisture in the air. Before anything else could happen to the poor, spasmodic creature whip-like straps of the opaque water curled around her slender limbs tugging at her frail form as if she wasn’t damaged enough. Frantically she strained all her weight to get away but more and more of them came covering her, pulling her down untill she was fully beneath the frothing mire and then falling. Falling where? What the? Something is soooo not right here. Why does this always happen to me? She cringed at impact hardly noticing it was lessened by something beneath her what it was she had no idea nor did she plan to find out. Simply laying there quavering helplessly the bright, swirling celtic designs of lavender, powder blue, sea green and sunny yellow on her smooth, silvery-white body breached to maltreatment like that of a wilted flower. Fluttery fins with the consistency of a butterfly’s wing drooping morosely and a soft, pathetic cry that sounded suspiciously like a more humanized version of squeaky windshield wipers once and a while becoming lower or higher as she tried once and a while with no luck to breath. She was going to die, in a strange place, with no family, no home and no one to care.
