Chapter XCVII: A Cause for Alarm - Kyle

Kyle was hiking along a narrow path through a thick woods. Trees of red, purple, gold, orange, tan, and brown leaves towered over him, thier kaleidoscope of colors resembling a spectacular fireworks display presented by nature. Kyle closed his eyes and breathed in deep, taking that musty, cool, autumn smell into his lungs.
Suddenly, that breath was cut short by what felt like a bag of bricks being dropped on him. He sprawled forward on the forest floor, his face in a pile of newly-fallen leaves. He groaned and got to his feet slowly, rubbing his shoulder tenderly as he looked back to examine what had hit him. He quickly forgot his pain as he saw a quivering, stark-naked being lying on the ground no more than 7 feet away from him. He looked upon it curiously, and began to cautiously approach it. By the look of it, he could guess that it might be female, but as for it's race or origin, he had no idea. As he knelt down beside it, it's eyes suddenly opened up. Suprised, Kyle fell down on his rear as it sat up and swiped at his chest with a hand full of razor-sharp claws, ripping into his shirt and flesh as if they were paper. Kyle shouted in pain as he fell to the ground, clutching the open wounds raked into him by the strange creature. As soon as he was on the ground, it tried to stand up and began to half run, half bear-crawl through the forest, but it fell short about 30 yards away and collapsed to the ground.
Kyle stumbled to his feet and staggered over to the beast. He looked down and saw that it was unconscious, and noticed for the first time its flippers, fins, and gills. He hurriedly gathered the slumped form in his arms and ran frantically through the forest, searching for any form of water. Suddenly, he remembered a skill he had learned in the library a week and a half ago. He closed his eyes and tried to gather his thoughts. His mind searched the surrounding area, trying to lock onto a sign of water. Suddenly, a picture of a small stream, running into a pond came into focus in his mind's eye.
He quickly said the words "Teleportation Zeta!" As soon as the words came from his mouth, he and the figure he was holding burst apart into billions of particles of energy. They began travelling at an amazing speed toward the water source, and, once there, collected back into their original forms. Kyle ran to the pond and knelt on the bank. He gently laid her limp body in the water, and let it sink down into it, praying for the best...
