Chapter C: Making a New Friend -Rynn
As Ceres flew over the woods she thought she knew so well, she noticed she was fast approaching the edge of the woods. That wasn't good, for she knew that not far from the edge of the wood lay a town. Humans lived in towns and hated her kind. But as she turned to fly back over the woods, she noticed that once again she was deceived. There was no town, only a valley of gentle rolling hills. And further out across the sky, three dark shapes were headed her way. Two were much smaller that the third, and Ceres hoped it was her father with two scouts out looking for her, but she knew it could not be.
Hello! she called out in Rowen, hoping the shapes could understand her.
She was a bit surprised when one called back to her in almost perfect Rowen. Hello yourself! Are you native to this place?
Ceres shook her black head, and her eyes went green with sadness. No friend, I am not. I am lost.
The three shapes grew closer, and Ceres could tell that the smaller two were almost human, if humans had wings. The male had wings like a dragon, but the other, the female, she had wings like a bird. Ceres smiled. Birds were always pretty.
"Well, that makes all four of us then," said the male with the dragon wings. "I am Chanlin, and this is my wife, Rynn, our daughter Mara, and her dragon friend, Ruth. Who might you be?"
Ceres smiled. She had never known humans to befriend a dragon, but she sensed these weren't normal humans. I am Ceres.
Rynn smiled. "That's a lovely name, Ceres. Perhaps we could join together and see if we can find our way home."
The dragon nodded. I would like that, but I fear I can not fly much longer.I am still a littling to my people, and I get tired much faster than the adults. If we could walk, I would like that.
Chanlin nodded, and the small grounds settled to the valley floor. Excuse me while I change. Then, without warning, Ceres' Rowen form slowly turned back into that of a human's. Chanlin and Rynn were amazed, but Mara and Ruth seemed unfazed by it. When she was done, a young woman stood before the small family. "Now, shall we be off?"
Chanlin smiled. "Yes...I hope before long we can figure out where we are and find our way home."
