Chapter CCXVIII: Follow the Light ~Ria

Ren found himself happy to be trailing along after Adrian and Gelid. He's never expected to be able to go with her anywhere. She'd always seemed so aloof, but something about her had changed. He wasn't sure if it was because of what had happened to her while she was gone, or if it was because of Ragon's death, but she was different.
"I see you have picked up another sword swinger." Ren found himself looking at, and partially though a face that appeared right in front of him. He yelped and stumbled backwards. "He seems to be slightly scared of me. Doesn't that contradict to your job description?"
"A vulth'n." Ren pulled the sword from its sheath and swung at the floating ghost in front of him.
Adrian's sword met his with a clash of metal. "As annoying as he is, Optional's not a threat. You can leave him alone."
"Why thank you Lady Adrian." Optional said. "I didn't know you cared." He turned into a kite and soared into the sky.
"Actually I just needed to ask you if you're responsible for the lights in the sky just now." She said.
Ren watched the kite soar back down with mistrust. It was a vulth'n any way you looked at it, but Adrian didn't seem to think it was a threat. He reluctantly put his sword away.
"No. It was not I. It was someone you met before however." Optional replied, changing back into his ghost form. "He's calling everyone to him, figures it'll give him a chance to beat Havering." Optional giggled.
Ren didn't like how close the vulth'n was to Adrian, and he moved forward responsively. Optional turned into a rock and landed at Ren's feet. "I believe you need to lighten up a bit little sir."
Ren picked up the rock, which felt just as heavy as a real rock. "Who are you exactly?"
"My name is Optional my good fellow. And who might you be?"
"You're a vulth'n. Why are you, well turning into a rock?"
"Because being in one form to long is boring. You think so as well. You can change shape too can't you?"
"Well yeah, but…"
"Are you coming Ren?" Adrian called. She and Gelid were already onto the perfectly smooth, glass looking ground just beyond where the forest ended.
"Yeah. Wait up." Ren dropped the rock and hurried to catch up with Adrian. "So are we going to find out what those explosions were?"
Adrian nodded. "And I have a good idea who sent it up too."
